Duendes for Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition

In Dungeons & Dragons 5e, duendes are benevolent fey-kin similar to elves or gnomes. Duende personalities range from wise and charming to stubborn and slow.  Duendes that turn to adventuring do so out of a desire to see the broader world and multiverse. In addition, duendes feel a strong need to protect and guide others, especially those who have a similar love of nature such as rangers and druids.

New Player Option: Duende Playable Race

As a duende, you are one with the wild but are still enamored by civilization. You see each new person you meet as an opportunity to learn and adventure, and while you tend to have your own ideas and thoughts on how things around you work, you’re always up for getting new perspectives (even if those perspectives are plain wrong). Duendes have an innate sense of the world and how it’s developed; they cannot get lost when in a natural environment. As world travelers, duende enjoy new experiences and different worlds; it is not uncommon for duendes to become planar nomads.

Duende Traits

Your duende character has certain characteristics in common with all other duendes.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1 and your Wisdom score increases by 2.

Age. Duendes live longer on average than humans. They mature around 90 years of age and can live for up to 500 years.

Alignment. Duendes tend toward good alignments. They don’t have an outright dislike for law and order, although their love of nature and the wild often gives them chaotic or neutral tendencies.

Size. Duendes are between 3 and 5 feet tall and average about 50 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Nature Sense. You are not slowed by difficult terrain and you cannot become lost except by magical means. In addition, when you forage, you find twice as much food as you normally would.

Perceptive. You gain proficiency in the Perception skill.

Stubborn. You are immune to becoming charmed. In addition, you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Duende, and Sylvan. The Duende language is a hodgepodge of hisses, pops, squints, and borks. Some have described it as sounding like corn kernels popping on a frying pan.
